The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission accepts charges of discrimination on the basis of race, sex, age, religion, national origin, and color. Sexual harassment is a kind of sex discrimination, and enforcement of the civil rights protection against sexual harassment is a priority of the EEOC.
The EEOC recently reported that sexual harassment charges of discrimination have increased more than 13% from the prior year. More significantly, the reasonable cause findings increased by almost 25%.
Claimants do not need a reasonable cause finding to file a lawsuit based on sexual harassment, but such a finding carries weight. And some of them lead to cases filed directly by the EEOC against the employer.
