Mary Keating was an anthropology major at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, and a 1984 graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law. Since 1994, she has devoted much of her practice to employment law in the state of Maryland, for employees and small employers. Her legal website is at
Keating has served as the Project Director of the Employment Law Hotline for the Women’s Law Center of Maryland since 2010. As a practitioner and in her role with the Employment Law Hotline, she has fielded innumerable inquiries about workplace problems, from employees at every socioeconomic level. She occasionally testifies in Annapolis, Maryland, regarding pending employment bills.
In 2018, Keating was named to the Commission on Workplace Harassment by the President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House, to investigate and report on harassment in the legislature, and more broadly through the state. As a Commissioner, she contributed a report on the cultural attributes of workplaces that either support or diminish the incidence of sexual harassment. The Commission’s report is expected to be issued later this fall.
